Avatar: The Way of Water Storyline:
Avatar 2 is the sequence of the first Avatar movie, and after choosing to be with the Navi species in the first Avatar movie, in the new avatar movie, Jake Sully and Neytiri have formed a family while enjoying their time together.
In Avatar 2, Jake Sully is a Chief of the Omaticaya Clan. He has five children, including Neteyam and Lo’ak (his sons), Tuk (his daughters), Kiri (adopted – a daughter born from Grace Augustine’s comatose Navi avatar), and Spider (a human boy and son of Miles Quaritch who was born on Pandora but was unable to be transported to Earth in cryostasis.)
Jake and Neytiri have a minor conflict regarding Spider, their adopted son, because of his human origins. Nonetheless, there is good bonding and synchronization among all the children, especially between Kiri and Spider. Spider feels more connected and inclined toward Navi culture and traditions.
Life was happening well until one day when they noticed a strange star in the night sky and realized that it was an RDA spaceship with humans having intentions to colonize Pandora leading to a new main operation base.
Colonel Quaritch, cloned into a Navi body with his memories uploaded from before his death, was one of the new arrivals on the ship. Because of the fact that Quaritch has memories from his past, he recollects the events in the past and his mission to eliminate Jake.
To safeguard Pandora from the RDA spaceship, Jake leads a strategic guerrilla operation, and in one of the operations, Lo’ak tries to assist Jake in proving himself but gets wounded. Nonetheless, Jake rescues and disciplines him to keep himself safe while Neytiri reminds him not to be too harsh on Lo’ak, and Jake expresses his concern and care for his children in response. On the other hand, Quaritch is still looking for ways to kill Jake.
One day when Jake’s children were exploring deeper into the rainforest, Lo’ak noticed Quaritch and his team with his human remains as they were in the same vicinity then. Lo’ak soon informs the same to Jake, and now he is alert about the situation.
Unfortunately, due to a skirmish, Quaritch’s squad snatches them, and Jake and Neytiri can successfully free all of them except Spider. RDA then forces Spider to provide information about Jake, but he refuses to which Quaritch tells him that he is his son and offers him freedom if he is willing to share about the Na’Vi. Spider gives up and shares information, not knowing Quartich’s true intentions. Additionally, Quaritch successfully tames an Ikran flying creature as his vehicle.
Meanwhile, Jake convinces a reluctant Neytiri and his family to relocate to the eastern seaboard of Metkayina. Jake passes his chief mantle to his successor and leaves together with his family to Mekayina, and the clan chief Tonowari and his wife Ronal greet them.
Initially, Ronal is doubtful about them, but as soon as Jake explains their situation, they agree to provide them stay. They soon learn ways to reef people and earn their respect. On the other side, Jake and Neytiri’s children also adapt to a new environment. Kiri is amazed by the aquatic life of Metkayina, leading to a spiritual bond with the surroundings, while Lo’ak befriends Tsireya, the daughter of clan chief Tonowari.
Lo’ak gets into a fight with Aonung, Tsireya’s brother, as he makes fun of his and Kiri’s mixed human lineage. When Jake learns about this, he admonishes and asks Lo’ak to apologize. However, when Lo’ak goes to apologize, Aonung and his friends ask him for a trip to dangerous territory and leave him stranded as revenge.
When sea predators attack Lo’ak, Payakan, an intelligent pacifistic cetacean species, saves him. They soon become friends, and when Lo’ak returns to Metkayina, Chief Tonowari asks Aonung to apologize. Nonetheless, Lo’ak takes all the blame on himself, leading to the friendship between Lo’ak and Aonung. Lo’ak also discovers that Payakan is an outcast among his species.
When Kiri is on a trip to an offshoot of the Tree of Souls to meet her mother, she suddenly suffers a violent seizure, and Jake calls Norm Spellman and Max Patel for help while Quaritch successfully tracks them to the archipelago. Quaritch comes with Spider and commandeers a whaling vessel to haunt tulkuns to make anti-aging remedies by harvesting their brain enzymes. He brutally asks about Jake’s location to indigenous tribes and orders the whaling crew to kill tulkuns if they don’t respond. By mentally linking with Payakan, Lo’ak figures out that he was cast out because he went against the ways of his species to fight with the whalers who killed his mother.
As soon as Metkayina learns about the tulkun slaughters, Lo’ak warns Payakan and his siblings, Tsireya and Aonung. Whalers were chasing Payakan while Quaritch caught Lo’ak, Kiri, and Tuk.
When Quaritch asks Jake to surrender, Payakan attacks the whalers leading to a fight that kills many crews and significantly damages the vessel, causing it to sink. While rescuing Lo’ak and Spider, Neteyam fatally gets shot, and Jake faces Quaritch, who in return uses Kiri as a hostage. In response, Neytiri does the same with Spider, to which Quaritch is ignorant at first but gives up when she cuts him in the chest.
In the end, Jake, Quaritch, Neytiri, and Tuk are trapped under the sinking vessel. While Jake strangles Quaritch to unconsciousness, Lo’ak and Payakan rescue him. Kiri summons sea creatures to save Neytiri and Tuk.
After knowing Quaritch’s cruelty towards Navi and intention to kill Jake’s family, Spider leaves him and joins Jake’s family. After Neteyam’s funeral, Jake and his family permanently decide to stay with the Metkayina.
