Wikipedia has become an integral part of our lives. We use it frequently to get information about almost anything from this big world. Whether you want to know about some celebrity, any historical place, incident, event, technical things, religious information, space exploration, or anything, you are just a search away in Wikipedia.
This Encyclopaedia has all that you need and is serving it with its webpage for years. Through these years, the Wikipedia page has remained the same and the design has not been changed. So, now the team has decided to develop a Wikipedia New Interface to provide users with a better experience.
This Wikipedia Redesign will be happening for the first time in 10 years and users will surely have a smooth and better experience, ultimately getting the required information with more focus and comfort. It won’t be a complete design revamp but the existing elements will be improved and relocated to give users the best experience reading and rewrite an article.
Let’s quickly know what all things will be involved in the Wikipedia website Redesign.
Firstly, there will be a new table of contents dropdown. Users can click this dropdown and select the section that he wants to have a glimpse of. This will eliminate the need of scrolling the entire article to go to the desired section.
The left sidebar will now collapse. Users can collapse the left side menu and this will allow them to stay focused on reading the article rather than getting distracted from other things in the left menu. If the user wants to view the left side links then he can get them easily by unhiding the side menu.
The logo on each page will be made smaller.
One other change and one can say a very significant change is an addition of a button upon clicking which, you can change the content to your desired language.
There will be improvements made to the in-site search tool so users can easily find pages that they want to get information from. Let’s hope for an advanced search that returns the exact result the user wants to have. Also, the location of this search box will now change and it will be moved to the middle of the header.
The header part will remain sticky so as users scroll down the article, the header part will also move down and so users can get the easy search box access in case they want to move to a new page.
These changes are going to happen not all of a sudden but incrementally one after another and the development efforts and time will go a long way. The entire Wikipedia desktop Redesign will get completed at the end of 2021, that’s a long way to go.
